Since 1965, WSOS Community Action Commission has been administering programs and support services to individuals, families, and communities. Established in response to the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, WSOS was created to aid in the war on poverty. WSOS is a non-profit agency devoted to assisting families and individuals become self-sufficient.
We help people help themselves.

The name WSOS comes from the counties we operate in.
Wood, Sandusky, Ottawa and Seneca.

December 12, 2008 - Requests for heating assistance increase for third year in a row
During the first month of the heating season, WSOS staff who operate the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program have served 97 households more than they did for the same period in 2007.

December 10, 2008 - Lake Towne holds open house for new senior housing
Area senior citizens who may be seeking affordable housing in the area will have the opportunity on Friday, December 19, to tour the new units at Lake Towne Senior Village in Walbridge. [continued]

November 24, 2008 - Parenting tips help parents at Rossford center
Controlling an out-of-control preschooler, disciplining toddlers, or involving teen-agers in family activities were only some of the tips parents learned at the Parent Night activity at the WSOS Rossford Child Development Center recently. [continued]

November 24, 2008 - Pioneer Days at the Perrysburg Child Development Center
Dressed in pioneer days clothing and armed with a basket of crafts for the preschoolers to do, Renell Simrau of the Wood County Park District introduced the preschoolers at the WSOS Perrysburg Child Development Center to a sample of toys used during the Pioneer time period.

November 24, 2008 - New housing now available for Wood County seniors
Lake Towne Senior Village apartment community is seeking residents for its Walbridge homes. The housing development is taking applications and anticipates filling all the apartments by March 2009.

November 13, 2008 - WSOS to administer Fostoria’s housing grant
WSOS will work with the City of Fostoria to administer the city’s Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP), according to the agency’s board of directors, who approved the partnership at its monthly meeting on Tuesday.

November 6, 2008 - Ohio Economic Development Association picks WSOS staffer
Oak Harbor resident Kerrie Carte has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA). Each board member serves on a board committee and Carte will serve on the newly created Workforce Development Committee of the board.

November 6, 2008 - Tax refund assistance available at WSOS
Residents who may be seeking help with their 2008 income tax returns may find that they get back more by using the WSOS Ohio Benefit Bank.
